Community member Teresa Bottomley has received Excellence to the Sector award in appreciation of her invaluable work in our Education and Early Years sector.
Teresa has served on Community’s Education Sector Committee as Chairperson and Secretary, and is also a sitting NEC member, holding an Education Sector Seat. A long-standing union member, Teresa began her activism as a student member of Voice, which later merged into Community in 2020.
Teresa received several nominations for the Excellence To Sector award, most notably from the current chair of the Education Sector Committee, Caroline who nominated Teresa because of her tireless work for Voice, then Community. Caroline highlighted that Teresa is a warm, caring, committed member of the sector committees and the NEC, and has supported so many others both in their careers in education and within trade union roles.
Teresa also received a nomination from fellow NEC member Joy Rowley, who also sits on the Education Sector Committee.
Joy Rowley said:
“Teresa has been an active member in Leicestershire for many years before and after Voice joined Community. She has been proactive in developing her branch and has been actively working with colleagues to recruit members across education and other sectors. As Teresa approaches retirement, this award would be a fitting recognition of the contribution she has made over the years.”
Helen Osgood, Community Operations Director and National Secretary for Education and Early Years, said:
“Community’s Education Sector are immensely proud of our secretary Teresa Bottomley, whose unwavering dedication, tireless commitment, and passion for education and helping members have gone far beyond the call of duty. Teresa’s well-deserved award is a testament to the profound impact she has made to the Education Sector in Committee. This recognition reflects not only Teresa’s exceptional service, but also the inspiration she brings to us all. Congratulations and thank you for your outstanding contribution to the Education Sector: an outstanding achievement, and a worthy recipient.”
