Responding to comments made by the Justice Secretary this week on employment tribunals, Community Assistant General Secretary Alasdair McDiarmid said:
“We welcome the government’s decision to rule out reintroducing charges for employment tribunals. This is the right decision, and one which was reached after strong representations from unions.
“Challenging unfair treatment at work can be a daunting and stressful process. The added implication of having to pay to stand up for your rights would be enough to put many off speaking up altogether. Indeed, we saw the first-hand evidence of this when the previous Tory government brought in employment tribunal fees in 2013.
“In contrast, this Labour government has consistently shown that it is on the side of working people. The decision to keep employment tribunal fees free – coming ahead of the landmark and game changing Employment Rights Bill – is a demonstration of that commitment.”
