Responding to the government unveiling the landmark Employment Rights Bill today, Roy Rickhuss CBE, General Secretary of Community trade union, said:
“The Employment Rights Bill, published within 100 days of Labour’s historic election victory, is the best example to show the difference between a Labour Government on the side of working people and the previous Tory Government which relentlessly attacked trade union and workers’ rights.
“There is much to celebrate within the Bill itself, from Day One rights for all workers to trade union access rights, representing this Government’s pro-worker approach. It’s important to note that these measures won’t negatively impact the large number of good employers in the UK, but they will help crack down on less scrupulous employers who suppress wages and rights for their employees.
“We are grateful that the government has acted at pace to bring this ambitious Bill before Parliament so swiftly, and we recognise that this is just the first step in delivering the changes working people need. We look forward to working together with the Government on further measures in the implementation plan, particularly on rights and protections for self-employed workers and the impact of technology in the workplace, so that all Community members will benefit from this groundbreaking package.”
