Crackdown on late-payments culture welcomed

Responding to the UK Government’s announcement of a crackdown on late payments, Dominic Armstrong Head of Policy & Communications for Community Union said:

“Community wholeheartedly welcomes the Labour government’s move to tackle the culture of late payments for small businesses and the self-employed.

“We hear far too often from our members that they have been left waiting for invoices to be paid. If you do the work you should be paid for the work, it’s as simple as that.

“The Labour government’s proposal to implement mandatory interest payments for those who pay late is a key step in tackling what has been for too long a power imbalance between big businesses and self-employed freelancers. It will be keenly welcomed by our growing self-employed members.”

Join the union for the self-employed

Community trade union is a collective voice for the self-employed. We bring together self-employed and freelance workers, so we have a strong voice to lobby for much needed changes. We’re using our collective voice to raise up the voices of the self-employed and freelancers and argue for better support and provisions. We are a modern trade union, campaigning for a better working world.
