Community Rep Elected TUC Women’s Committee Chair

Recently Capita Rep Elaine Ledger-Jones from the South West region in Community was elected as TUC Women’s committee chair.

Elaine is an active Community member and rep and is keen to promote the work of Community and support her trade union in any way she can.

We would like to extend our thanks to Elaine for her support and congratulate her on this new role.

Elaine tells us more below:

“Recently, Community sent out a bullet-in of seats available on the National Executive of South West Trade Union Council and the TUC Women’s Committee.

“Community invited the reps who were interested to put forward their nominations. I took up the invitation to be nominated for both, and was successfully elected to a seat on the South West Trade Union Council Women’s Committee. At their first meeting I was volunteered and unanimously voted to be this Committee’s Chair. I’m looking forward to working closely with all the Committee members and especially with the elected Vice Chair Kerry Cassidy from ASLEF and Sadie Futon, the administrative overseer of the committee on behalf of Women’s Committee.

“I’ve long held a strong interest in a wide range of issues critical to women, all women. As a woman I have witnessed and experience first hand the changes that women have faced over the years.

“I’ve wanted to get involved where I can be part of group with one voice and one vision to making a difference, tackling and improving the inequalities that face women to be their voice. But to also highlight and show of the achievements reached and improvements so far successfully attained. I’m also significantly passionate about the issues and culture changes emerging today are going to affect and impact the women of tomorrow – the younger generation.

“The South West Trade Council Women’s Subcommittee does all this and so much more. I’m eager to contribute to this important work.”
