Community recognised for supporting armed forces community

Today, Community has been recognised with the prestigious Silver Employer Recognition Scheme Award from The Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for Greater London for supporting service personnel and the armed forces community.

Community is amongst thirty-nine London based employers to be awarded. The Silver Employer Recognition Scheme Award is given to organisations who proactively support the armed forces community, ensuring that their workforce is aware of their positive policies towards defence people and support to mobilisations.

Roy Rickhuss CBE, General Secretary of Community, says:

“We are delighted to receive this award as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting our military personnel.

Given how each of us benefits from the safety our armed forces community provides, I see it as a responsibility and a duty of employers to support the armed forces in any way that we can.

That is why we have resigned the Armed Forces Covenant and encourage all organisations we have a good relationship with to sign as well, it’s why we campaign to end veteran homelessness, and why we continue to support current and former armed forces members in any way we can.

Community wants to thank our military personnel at home and overseas, and are committed that our support will continue and grow in the coming years.”

The Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association for Greater London has supported and championed London’s reserve forces and cadets – Navy, Army and Air Force – for over a century by raising awareness and developing relationships with communities, employers and veterans.

To mark Armed Forces Day this year, Community resigned the Armed Forces Covenant, a pledge to acknowledge and understand that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.
