Community Union has endorsed Vaughan Gething MS for the next leader of Welsh Labour.
Community General Secretary Roy Rickhuss said:
We’re very pleased to endorse Vaughan Gething as the next leader of Welsh Labour and Wales’ fifth First Minister.
Vaughan Gething is a proud trade unionist with a lifelong record of standing up for working people. His track record – whether as the youngest-ever President of the Wales TUC, or as an experienced Welsh Government minister – speaks for itself.
His commitment to steelworkers – from Port Talbot to Shotton, and Llanwern to Trostre – has been unwavering. Vaughan knows the industry, and shares our bold ambition for its future.
This is a high stakes moment for our members and for the people of Wales. We need a leader and First Minister who is ready to deliver from day one – standing up for our steel industry and leading the fight at a must-win general election. Working alongside a UK Labour Government led by Keir Starmer, a Vaughan Gething-led Welsh Government will serve as a strong and dynamic voice for working people across Wales.
Vaughan Gething said:
“I am deeply honoured to be endorsed by Community and am determined to lead the fight to secure an ambitious future for Welsh steel and Welsh workers.
“Union reps who step up to support one another make working life better for all of us. Community members do that work day in day out and I am delighted to have their support.
“I have spent my life fighting for working people and will work in partnership with trades unions to build that ambitious future.”
