Community worked with management and reps from GXO to run drop-in sessions at the Barnsley and Doncaster sites. The aim of the drop-in sessions was to promote the union’s learning offer to all GXO staff including members and non-members, and to promote the membership through learning.
Here Community is integrating learning into core union activity as we recognise the power learning has to engage people. Throughout the month of June, working with our on-site Reps and ULRs, Hiba Bayoumi, Project Coordinator, and Letitia McCalla, Regional Organiser, held 8-sessions. These covered morning, afternoon, evening and night shifts- opening up learning opportunities for everyone. Over 500 staff visited our stall, and we signed up 10 new members to the Community family.
Hiba Bayoumi, from Community stated:
“Regular workplace learning develops the confidence and skills of individuals and working with management has been key to help make learners the most employable and to thrive in their chosen career”.
Our learning rep Nicholas Dewhirst said:
“I am delighted to be working as a ULR in the workplace to encourage, promote and support high-quality learning- this will help identify employee learning needs and fulfil training gaps.”
We know that every one of our members has different needs, that’s why we have an in-house learning team who are dedicated to providing you with practical and flexible opportunities that are unique to you. Whether that be short online training or in person sessions in the workplace.
