Community is today backing the ‘Hello Hydrogen’ campaign, which brings together distribution networks, boiler manufacturers and energy suppliers to raise households’ awareness of the low-carbon gas’s role in reducing CO2 emissions.
Members of the group hope the information hub will teach people about new hydrogen-ready boilers and cookers that could be used to heat their homes in the future.
Hello Hydrogen also wants to highlight the ease in which homes will be able to install the new hydrogen-ready boilers like-for-like with old ones at the end of their life in a cost- efficient way – especially in households where they might not have space for alternative future heating options like heat pumps.
Gavin Miller, National Officer for Light Industries at Community, says:
“We are very pleased to be backing the Hello Hydrogen campaign. Hydrogen will play an essential part in Britain’s future energy supply, and the U.K. has the capability to produce and supply hydrogen boilers to homes across the country. This will help us on the path to net zero, as well as providing thousands of jobs across the country. The Government will make a crucial decision in 2026 on what Britain’s new heating policy should be, and it is vital that they back hydrogen as part of this conversation.”
The switch from natural gas to hydrogen for home heating could cut CO2 emissions by 20 million tonnes a year – equivalent to 12 million cars.
