Community Union has announced the launch of a new partnership with Google focusing on preparing the workforce to harness the opportunities of Artificial Intelligence.
New research for Google by Public First shows that over 60% of jobs across the UK have the potential to be significantly enhanced by AI, with the new technology set to add over £400 billion in value for the UK economy by 2030.
In the first ever partnership of this kind, Community will be collaborating with Google on ‘AI Works’ – an initiative to offer AI training and support to Community members across the UK economy. Supported by researchers from Public First, the programme will explore the potential for collective peer learning, habit formation and building trust to develop AI skills; insight and learnings from the programme shared with business leaders, policymakers and third parties. Community Union is looking forward to working with Google in this bold new collaboration.
Community General Secretary Roy Rickhuss CBE said:
“Artificial Intelligence presents one of the biggest changes to our economy and to the nature of work since the industrial revolution. As a modern trade union, our priority is supporting our members through this change – ensuring change works well for working people.
“Community believes strongly in the potential for AI to make jobs more efficient, more flexible, and more rewarding for workers across the country. But to ensure AI works for working people, we need to empower and support them with the AI skills they will increasingly need.
“This first of its kind partnership with Google will not only provide valuable training to Community members, but also offer crucial insight into how best we can upskill and support workers across the UK to harness the potential of AI.”
