Commenting on the pre-Budget announcement that the pay freeze for teachers will be lifted in next year’s pay round, Deborah Lawson, Assistant General Secretary with Community Union’s Voice Community education section, said:
“This seems like good news, but whether it is in reality all depends on what any pay rise actually amounts to.
“We need to see what the remit for the School Teachers’ Review Body (STRB) will be – whether the Government gives it and other public sector review bodies limited parameters or free rein to make recommendations.”
“It is essential, with school budgets stretched to breaking point, that any pay increases must be properly funded by government.
