Carbon Budget and Growth Delivery Plan

Responding to government’s publication of its Carbon Budget and Growth Delivery Plan today, Community Assistant General Secretary Alasdair McDiarmid said:

“We welcome the publication of this ambitious plan and the government’s firm commitment to decarbonising the economy in a fair way. This is in line with the just transition which we have long called for.

“The development of renewable technologies and green infrastructure detailed in the plan can provide a much-needed boost to our steel sector, as well as for light manufacturing industries like boiler-making where our members are already working on innovative new heating products.

“This plan represents a significant step in the right direction, and we hope to see further action on industrial electricity costs in the autumn budget. Our steel industry and businesses across the UK need support with this as they are still paying over the odds for their energy. We will continue to work with the government to tackle this long-standing barrier to competitiveness and investment.”
