Digital Skills: Closing the Gap

Having a good level of digital skills is increasingly important in our everyday lives as digital technology affects almost every part of it — from work and education, making social connections, online banking, as well as access to health and social care services.

Community is committed to improving the lives of our members, and this includes helping them to become more digitally confident in their work and personal lives. We believe every worker in the UK should be supported to build the digital skills they need to prosper in work now, and in the future.

Our Digital Skills Campaign will see us partnering with employers across the UK to work collaboratively to assess the current digital capabilities of their workforce, and use this information to identify and address workforce digital skills gaps through joint learning and development opportunities.

As part of our campaign, our employer partners will be awarded the Community Digital Skills Stamp. As a partner in our campaign, employers agree to:

  • Collaborate with Community to build essential digital skills among employees
  • Evaluate current digital capabilities by using Community’s Essential Digital Skills Assessment Tool
  • Identify and address digital skills gaps by working jointly with Community to develop tailored training opportunities, including co-designed courses and workplace learning initiatives
  • Support Union Learning Reps to act as digital champions and providing them with paid time off to attend development training, as well as providing them with time, resources and opportunities to promote Community’s Digital Skills Campaign to their members and colleagues.
