Community Union has welcomed Andy Burnham’s appointment as leader of the Labour Party.
Andy was appointed at a special party conference in central London on Friday and will officially become Prime Minister on Monday.
Community General Secretary Roy Rickhuss CBE said:
“I want to congratulate Andy Burnham on becoming leader of the Labour Party. Community looks forward to working closely with him as he builds on the work being delivered by the Labour Government.
“Since the Labour Party returned to power two years ago, there have been major strides in workers’ rights through the Employment Rights Act, and significant progress has also been made in efforts to safeguard and renew our domestic steel industry.
“This new chapter in politics offers a fresh opportunity to advance Labour’s ambitious policies, and we will work alongside Andy in his endeavour to secure a better future for the workers of Britain.
“Andy is the right person to lead this country and continue the great work that is being done to deliver the Modern Industrial Strategy, UK Steel Strategy and other important parts of the Government’s agenda.”
