An important step in the right direction

The Government has today announced the Energy Security Strategy.

Alasdair McDiarmid, Operations Director for the steelworkers’ union Community, says:

“It was vital the Energy Security Strategy contained support for the steel industry, and the extension of an enhanced EII compensation scheme is an important step in the right direction. However government must do much more to bring our unaffordable energy prices into line with those paid by EU producers. British steelworkers are the best in the world but they need a level playing field on which to compete, and delivering competitive energy prices is an absolutely essential component.”
