#Lab21: A positive conference vision

The leader of the Labour Party Sir Keir Starmer today delivered his first in-person Leaders Speech to the Labour Party Conference.

Roy Rickhuss CBE, General Secretary of the trade union Community, says:

Keir Starmer’s speech set out a plan to build a better future for Britain. After an invigorating party conference, we look forward to working with the party and the union movement to make that a reality.

That future is more urgently needed than ever with the government cutting Universal Credit as fuel prices go up, tax increases beckon and the shortage of HGV drivers causes chaos across industries.

At Community we are delighted by the announcements during conference from Rachel Reeves and Ed Miliband for investment in green steel and financial support for industrial transition. We see this as an essential plan to shape an economy of the future.

Positive progress has been made during this party conference. It is now time to forget the debates of the past and focus on how we rebuild our working world for the better.
