A decent pay rise is the least our teachers deserve

Speaking as this year’s National and Higher results are published, Dougie Atkinson, Senior Professional Officer (Scotland) for Community, the union for education professionals, says:

“Congratulations to all of our successful students who received their exam results today. As a result of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, this year will have for some been the first time they have had to sit their exams in person in a traditional way.

“This year’s exam season must have been all the more daunting, given the amount of home schooling students have endured over the past couple of years. So these results are all the more impressive, and Community wants to congratulate all of the students on their achievements.

“We also want to congratulate the teachers and school staff that have supported their students so capably and professionally. As pay talks continue, and the cost-of-living crisis is felt even more acutely, a decent pay rise for 2022 is the very least our teachers deserve for their efforts.”
