Scottish Government must act on teachers’ pay

Commenting on the statement issued today (23 January 2023) on behalf of all Scotland’s teaching unions, Dougie Atkinson, Senior Education Officer for Community in Scotland, said:

“It is disappointing that, despite the best efforts of Community and our sister teaching unions, the Scottish Government refuses to take action and deliver the fair pay our members deserve.

“Our message is clear: the Scottish Government and council leaders’ failure to act on pay is putting at risk the current generation of Scottish students.

“Refusing to have meaningful negotiations with the unions will only prolong this dispute. Community will continue to do all it can to bring this dispute to a satisfactory conclusion.”

No new pay offer for Scotland’s teachers

The SNCT Extended Joint Chairs met again on 12 January 2023, but no new offer was made by Scottish Government and COSLA.

Following the discussions on 9 January 2023, Senior Professional Officer (Scotland) Dougie Atkinson said:

“We are disappointed that no new offer was presented to Scotland’s teachers.

“Alongside other unions, we are willing to talk to secure the pay that our members deserve.”
