The Community trade union is a project partner for SSAFA’s VE Day commemorative album. Released to mark the 75th anniversary this Friday (8 May), VE Day 75 presents the stories of Victory in Europe Day celebrations throughout the UK and around the world.
SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, has been providing lifelong support to Armed Forces and their families since 1885. Last year, SSAFA’s teams of volunteers and employees helped more than 82,000 people in need, from Second World War veterans to young men and women who have served in more recent conflicts, and their families.
As one of the project partners, there is a feature in the publication about Community, featuring an interview with its General Secretary, Roy Rickhuss.
Commenting on the partnership, Roy Rickhuss, said:
“We welcomed the opportunity to support SSAFA’s VE Day 75 publication. The VE Day celebrations are an important moment to mark the peace that was won 75 years ago, while we also commemorate the people who contributed to that valiant effort.
“SSAFA’s work has been vital throughout its long history and it’s absolutely relevant today. That’s why we are proud to be part of this project to further support their activity. Those who have served their country still need support. It’s why Community is campaigning to end veteran homelessness and working with charities and veteran organisations to bring about that objective.”
Recounting the events of that extraordinary day and reflecting on its impact, right up to the present day, the fully illustrated, hardback publication, VE Day 75 also includes an extensive photographic record of the day. The result is an in-depth and visually striking record of one of the most significant days in modern history.
Copies of the album are available for free through the VE Day 75 website, with only a delivery charge needed as payment.
