Today, the UK Government launched its industrial strategy. Responding to the announcement, Roy Rickhuss, General Secretary of Community said:
“Today’s industrial strategy rightly recognises many of the challenges facing British industry, and starts to set out some of the solutions.
“Community’s members in manufacturing have had a tough few years, with thousands of jobs lost and industries fighting for survival. Unfortunately, despite its length, the industrial strategy has little to say about how government will support the UK steel industry to create jobs and unlock new investment.
“Steelworkers will judge this government not on the length of their policy documents, but on their willingness to work in partnership with trade unions as well as business to help British steelmaking not just survive, but thrive and compete on a global scale.”
