When life gets complicated

Sometimes, things happen that are out of your control – and life can get complicated. Sickness, injury, loss and serious money worries; they all create a great deal of worry and stress. We want to do our part in helping you through the hard times, with services and offers that lighten the load.

If you experience a serious illness or injury, at work or at home, we’re there to offer a helping hand. As a Community member, you can get up to two weeks of rest and recuperation time at one of our wonderful convalescent homes, as
part of our convalescent benefit. All expenses are paid, and you can even take a companion along with you.
Our legal team can also support you in seeking compensation for you and your immediate family; in circumstances where you are injured through no fault of your own.

And if your health is causing you problems at work, we’ll provide the active support you need to make sure you get a fair deal.

Supporting your loved ones
Sadly, a time of loss can also be a time of financial hardship. Community’s LifeChange Benefit exists to offer a helping hand at key milestones in your life. It includes a bereavement benefit, accidental injury benefit as well as a 65th birthday bonus. Working members accrue £200 each year for the first six years of membership, and £20 a year thereafter. And even after retirement, the benefit continues to accrue at £20 per annum and remains available for as long as you remain a member.

Supporting you with everyday complications
Community operates a free Legal Advice Service, which is open to all our members. We can help you with a wide range of legal queries and challenges, including consumer issues, neighbour disputes, and even housing matters. In times of need, the service can cover close family members too.

Supporting you in extreme circumstances
If your family is experiencing severe financial difficulties, we’ll do our best to help. Community’s Benevolent Fund offers financial support to members who have nowhere left to turn; particularly when state support is insufficient or not forthcoming.

To find out more about how we can help you, or to seek advice, call our Service Centre on 0800 389 6332.

All of Community’s benefits and services are only available to paying members of the union.
