Franche Community primary school are set to renovate their swimming pool with the help of a £500 donation of from local trade union Community’s West Midlands Regional Charity Committee.
The Regional Charity was created to support worthy local causes and projects with up to £2,000 presented to good causes in each region per year. Before the application to the Charity Committee the swimming pool was in real danger of closing, and with other local schools as well as Franche using this resource to learn a very important life-saving skill, it’s closure would of have taken away a community-wide resource for many children.
Community member Sarah Westwood, a member of the PTA, whose son attends Franche school along with the children and grandchildren of a number of other Community members, made the application on the school’s behalf to assist with the necessary renovations. Community was pleased to help the school with its fundraising.
Tracey Field, Regional Administrator for the Kidderminster-based Union, said ‘After meeting with the school council it was a delight to hear the difference the money will make in assisting with the necessary renovations. We were really happy to support this and hopefully the children of Franche and other local schools will continue to benefit from using the pool.’
A spokesperson for the school said ‘This was a very generous gesture from Community and the school council were delighted to talk about their plans for improving our school as well.’
