Local community centre receives much needed support from local trade union

Community - 10th December 2018

“It’s pleasantly surprising to hear that so many young people have joined in such high numbers to get involved in Rugby…”

A Newport based sports club formed by steelworkers over 70 years ago has recently received support from a local trade union.

Whiteheads club has seen over 160 young people joining the club to get involved in Rugby and make new friends.

To support the urgent need for more training gear and uniforms, Community rep Paul Horton successfully applied to Community’s Regional Charity Fund for support.

Speaking after the cheque presentation, Regional Secretary for Community Wales Rob Edwards said “It’s pleasantly surprising to hear that so many young people have joined the club in such high numbers to get involved in Rugby.

“Whitehead’s senior team have recently won their local league, and I’m sure the younger teams will soon be giving them a run for their money!”
