Roy Rickhuss joined Community reps, politicians and industry figures at the re-opening of the Dalzell steelworks in Scotland today.
Commenting on the restart, Roy Rickhuss, said:
“It’s a great achievement by everyone involved to see the Dalzell works re-open nine months after it was mothballed. It’s testament to the vision and investment of Liberty Steel and to the hard work of the steel task force, in particular Community’s local reps, who have worked tirelessly to get us to this point today.
“Community looks forward to continuing to work with the company as production ramps up, so more jobs can be brought back.
“We always said that there could and should be a future for steel production in Scotland and today proves what is possible when everyone with a stake in the industry works together.
“Now the Scottish government needs to continue to work with Community to develop and implement an effective industrial strategy to ensure that Dalzell can have a long future and provide jobs for current and future steelworkers in Scotland.”
Liberty has taken on 120 staff, many of whom are former workers at the plant. The company hopes to increase employment to 200 over the next 18 months.
