Community signs Time to Change mental health pledge in Wales

Community - 3rd January 2019

“Alongside Time To Change, we are trying our best to help those in difficult situations…”

On Tuesday 11 December, the trade union Community working in partnership with Communitas signed the Time To Change Wales pledge at a mental health event in Port Talbot. This pledge commits Community and it’s recognised workplaces to positively change attitudes toward mental health in the workplace.

Alan Coombs, Community NEC member and pledge signatory said “1 in 4 employees in the workplace suffer with a form of mental health condition, but we believe the figure to be higher.

“We need to try and help end the stigma that surrounds mental health and we will do what we can to assist those who find themselves in difficult situations.”

Community’s signature on the Time To Change pledge strengthens our commitment to positive action around mental health.

Communitas project manager Lisa Francis, who helped organise the event, said “I’m so proud that so many people came out to support this event, mental health is something close to my heart and with events like this we are reaching out to people and letting them know we are there for them.

“Mental health awareness courses are now becoming more popular and this indicates that more people are willing to try and understand how others feel who are living with these conditions”
