Ladbrokes Coral have commenced a 45-day period of collective consultation via the National Forum Representatives, following its announcement that it may need to close up to 1,000 shops because of the upcoming reduction in stakes on Fixed Odds Betting Terminals.
Tom Blenkinsop, Operations Director, said:
“We know this will be a deeply time worrying for staff. We will continue to support our members through the process.
“This appears to be a pre-emptive consultation as the company has itself admitted that in blaming the Government decision to enforce a maximum stake on fixed odds betting terminals, it does not know how customers or competitors will react.
“It looks like they could be closing shops and cutting jobs over the next 18 – 24 months, which makes this a very unsettling period for Community members.
“We have called on the company to immediately engage with Community to see if an alternative plan can be found to avoid job losses.
“The Government also has a role to play and must look at what support they can offer to workers whose jobs are at risk as an unintended consequence of changes to the law.”
Community is encouraging its members to engage with their Ladbrokes Coral National Forum Reps. The union has identified concerns around changes to some job roles and some of the proposed selection processes.
