Community Regional Organiser, Sayid Ali Ashar Moullin, has won an award for his contribution to the Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities in the South West.
At the fifth annual MTM Awards in Bristol last night (Sunday 18 December), Sayid was the winner of a Special Recognition award for his community organising.
The MTM Awards were created to showcase the talents and contributions of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities to business, the arts and the community.
Sayid was recognised for his work with Community reaching out to workers in ethnic minority communities across the South West.
Speaking after he received the award, Sayid said:
“It is a great honour and a privilege to win this award tonight. I would like to say thank you to everyone who voted for me and every one at Community who helped me in this special achievement.”
Roy Rickhuss, General Secretary of Community, said:
“We’re really proud of Sayid’s award and it’s deserved recognition for his contribution. We spotted his drive and talent when he was working at TNT Post in Bristol. He’s adept at reaching out to the diverse migrant communities that make up the UK’s workforce and helping to bring people together to create a better working world for themselves and their families. It’s great that his efforts have now been showcased in the wider community.”
Sayid works as an organiser primarily in the South West but has been supporting colleagues across the UK to organise migrant workers, in particular, within Community and to help people understand their rights.
