Community member shares his success story

28th February 2018

Civil Enforcement Officer and Community member Andrei Panait successfully overturned a decision made by his employer to be dismissed from his job at Lowdham Grange thanks to an appeal from the Community team.

Speaking after the outcome, Mr Panait said:

“When I found out I was suspended, my first thought was to speak to my union rep Kate. She listened carefully to my story and told me to stop worrying because Community is with me and they will take this case on my behalf.

“It was the first time in my life that I had to go through a process like this, and for me this was really stressful and upsetting. I spent many hours talking on the phone to my rep who helped me keep my feet on the ground.

“My Community Organiser Lisa has been very supportive, and understood what I was going through, emotional and financial. She came to meetings and set up legal support in case I needed it. I am really grateful to Lisa and her team for the support they gave me.”

Mr. Panait was represented by Community Regional Organiser Lisa Durrani, who said “this wasn’t an easy case given the circumstances surrounding the dismissal but after a successful appeal we are pleased that Andrei is now back working at the prison.”

As a member of Community, you can be represented by a trained official through any grievance or disciplinary process at work.
