Community reps at HMP Addiewell have recently revealed their new Community Hub. The new space has been set up to engage with members and provide a safe space to talk. It had been discussed between members and reps that the old office was not fit for purpose, now with the new hub in place Community reps at the prison are hoping that this will encourage a lot more engagement with staff.
Branch Secretary Pearl Abernethy said:
“We are delighted with our new union hub and can’t wait to show it off to our members during our first round of workplace surgeries. These workplace surgeries will be a great way to educate both our members and non-members of the extensive work that Community do within HMP Addiewell.”
Regional Secretary Steve Farrell said:
“This initiative is a great example of how good relations between the union and the employer can be to the benefit of our members. HMP Addiewell is a very active branch and having a space like this will help to further increase their profile in the prison. Well done to all involved.”
The new space and furniture were provided by their employer Sodexo for the branch to use as their new Community hub.
