Baroness Doreen Lawrence is joining Community as the union forges an exciting new partnership and looks at ways they can deliver on their common goals.
Baroness Lawrence recently met with Community’s General Secretary Roy Rickhuss to discuss how she could work together with Community and its members. There were a number of clear shared values and objectives and practical steps will be taken to look at joint working over the next year.
Baroness Lawrence said:
“I’m pleased to be joining Community as a modern trade union rooted in diverse communities across the UK. We have many values in common, which is why I wanted to work with Community. We want to partner together to create a society where everyone can flourish and, amongst other things, develop the key initiative that I am leading: Stephen Lawrence Day. I firmly believe that a most positive relationship will grow over the next year.”
Roy Rickhuss said:
“Baroness Lawrence is a formidable and respected campaigner and we are excited to welcome her into Community membership. We believe that building a partnership between a modern trade union and an indefatigable campaigner for justice will bring benefits to both Community’s members and wider society. We look forward to developing this relationship further in the coming months.”
