Community has signed a recognition agreement with Aviation Business Continuity (ABC) to represent its operatives, drivers and supervisors. The partnership means that Community will negotiate pay, terms and conditions as well as working practices on behalf of approximately 400 ABC employees.
Welcoming the new agreement, Roy Rickhuss, General Secretary of Community, said:
“We look forward to representing workers at Aviation Business Continuity. ABC is a key partner within the aviation sector and their employees carry out vital work in the smooth operation of the UK’s major airports. Ensuring workers have a collective voice improves productivity while ensuring that employees are fairly recognised and rewarded for their part in the success of the business.
“As an accredited Living Wage and Disability Confident employer ABC has a firm foundation that we can build on. We welcome ABC’s openness to working with a modern trade union and we know that signing this agreement is just the first step in what I am sure will be a partnership that will benefit both the company and its employees.”
David Johnson, Service Delivery for Aviation Business Continuity added:
“This partnership is a great opportunity for ABC to extend engagement with our people, our most valuable asset. Throughout 2019 we have taken huge strides in improving terms and conditions for all colleagues and this was recognised at the Heathrow Partnership Awards where ABC received the award for ‘Doing the Right Thing’. The safety of our teams is paramount and through this agreement, we look forward to delivering further enhancements to our safety culture.
“Through our dialogue with Community to date, we feel encouraged that we are aligned, providing a solid foundation upon which we can build a relationship that will benefit all”.
Community has been providing individual representation and support to a growing number of ABC employees since 2018. The recognition agreement is the next step in the working relationship between the company and the union.
